*~* Heidi's hemoglobin was checked (finally) at 6:30am last Saturday morning, a full day after Jaden was born. Normal count for hemoglobin is 12...hers was 4.6! She got two bags of blood after that and seemed to be doing better. Saturday night her hemoglobin was up to 7-something. Sunday morning it had dropped into the 6-something range. They went ahead and discharged her Sunday night...even though she was quite anemic and still very weak.
Despite all she went through she is doing fantastic....and so is baby Jaden. Heidi reports he's nursing like a champ. That's evident in his steady weight gain: born at 8lbs, 2oz....discharged at 7lbs, 9oz....3 days later he was 7lbs, 12oz. Heidi says Jaden has quite the personality, though....kinda reminds me of Ellie as a newborn, really....Heidi's in for it!! ;)
*~* Speaking of Ellie...she lost her 2 top teeth in less than 2 weeks. She now has the classic Kindergarten grin! These are her 3rd and 4th teeth lost so far. I pulled one out for her about a week & 1/2 ago. It had been hanging precariously for some time...long enough that the blood supply to it was almost nil, causing the tooth to turn a wonderful shade of gray. I couldn't stand the look of it anymore so I told her she had to get rid of it before bedtime that night. She worked for a while but wimped out on me. So I sat her on the bathroom counter, grabbed a bit of toilet paper & yanked it myself. The tooth next to it was quite loose so I offered to yank that one, a 2 for 1 deal so to speak....she declined.
I took the kids to the Children's Museum today. When we got into the parking ramp El asked for a napkin....she said her tooth was bleeding. (This is the same tooth she wouldn't allow me the joy of pulling a little over a week ago.) I looked back at her and, as she was working the tooth with her tongue, told her that it simply had to come out today. She cringed & recoiled....
*~* While at the Children's Museum today Andrew spent plenty of time working on his walking technique. Before today he could 'side-step' a distance of approximately 2 feet, but very rarely take steps straight forward. That's something we're working very hard on in his physical therapy sessions. Today was different. His longest distance of side-stepping was about 5 feet and he walked straight forward 4-5 steps at a time! That kid was all over the place!! It won't be long now and I'll have to keep him on a leash!!!
*~* Last, but not least, we listed our house for sale yesterday. I've been trying to convince Randy to move for the last year or so. Farm living is nice....but boring!! It's a chore to drive kids to a friend's house, in between naptimes and meal times, etc. The kids are bored out here...and so am I. Every time I brought the subject up Randy would shoot it down. Until about 2 weeks ago, that is. He had been doing some work at his parent's house in the Cities. While he was down there he apparently had an epiphany: if we move to a bigger town he may get more/higher paying jobs. (well golly-gee-whiz! who'da thunk it?) So now it's become HIS idea to move...and it's a great idea, if you ask him! (see how the male mind works here??) So we put our house on the market. We're hoping to find the house of our dreams in Willmar (town 30 miles north of us). Cross your fingers for us!
