Four days ago Brady decided that it would be a great idea to set up our tent and camp out overnight in the yard. Now, while that's just really not my cup of tea (especially since the weather called for 60 degrees and 50% chance of rain that night!), who am I to say no when one of the kids wants to take on this sort of adventure?
Brady had the tent all set up that evening, ready to go. He furnished his new home with his pillow and the blankets from his bed. He also ran an extension cord from the house to the tent to power his clock/radio. I believe he also brought along his MP3 player for added musical enjoyment. Oh, and he was determined that Sophie, his cat, would be joining him in the tent. Sophie, being the stubborn cat that she is, refused to enter the tent with her master....so Brady had to go it alone.
I really didn't expect Brady to last more than 20 minutes out there by himself...at night...in the dark...on a farm....with 'night noises' all around. But he surprised me and stayed in his wilderness home till 8am the next day! That's, apparently, when it got addicting for him. I suppose he figured if he could do it once, he could do it again. And he's been sleeping in his tent, in the front yard, every night since. He told me on day 3 that he's planning on 'tenting' long term, and asked how he'd go about getting a Tv set up out there for himself. I'm guessing he'll last a few more days, maybe even a week or so, but when the weather starts turning cooler he'll high-tail it back into the warnth of the house. Only time will tell.
